For occupational therapists, working with other disciplines is customary to ensure treatment is holistic, competent and successful. Effective communication between professions is essential to developing treatments that promote health (Ski & Thompson, 2011). Inter-professional communication aids in: building rapport with clients (Ennis et al., 2013), and creating an environment of mutual understanding (Dean, Oetzel & Sklar, 2014). Collaboration between disciplines has been recognised as a successful means of enriching health services (Kraft, Blomberg, Rydholm-Hedman, 2014), with research indicating a team approach to be more effective when professionals work together to make decisions (Johnson, 2015). In practice, I will seek to ensure my communication with other professions is suitable and valuable.
