As an occupational therapist, being empathetic allows you to relate to the client, understand their perspective, and deepens the therapeutic relationship. When empathy is manifested in practice, clinicians are more aware and can create individualised programs that cater to client (Campbell & Babrow, 2004). Furthermore, empathy elicits more relevant information from the client, which will aid in creating the most effective care plan (Flickinger et al., 2016). For my future practice, I will display empathy towards my clients, which will foster the greatest outcomes for their health.
